Company History
PETRA was founded in 1993, in Boise, Idaho with a pointed mission for quality construction and honest business practices. Poised for growth, Owner Jerry Frank recruited a winning team, that has successfully driven the recognition and strength of the company.

PETRA was founded on determination and a philosophy that building a business means building partnerships based on trust, knowledge and experience. After over a decade of working in commercial construction, Jerry Frank found himself at a cross roads: He could continue to work for an employer who did not share the same business ethics as Jerry, or he could take a leap of faith and pioneer his own road to greatness. With his business and industry background, and being cross-trained in many aspects of the construction process, Jerry founded PETRA Incorporated in 1993. Bolstered by the support of his young family and one unequivocally persuaded loan officer; the emerging entrepreneur endured the hardships of starting a new business. It wasn’t long before Jerry’s determination and deeply rooted ethics for building “rock-solid” business relationships soon captained the burgeoning company toward success.

In 1998 PETRA Incorporated moved into a 5,000 square ft. office suite in Boise’s Black Eagle Business Center, a business park that PETRA built. In this office, Jerry began to transform his company into a recognized leader in the regional construction industry. At Black Eagle, the PETRA team grew stronger with the addition of key management team members Gene Bennett and Art Stevens. With a strong management team secured, PETRA Incorporated began acquiring an unprecedented amount of projects each year. Over the next several years, the company continually gained 20% -25% annual increase in volume.

In 2006, Jerry Frank began conceptualizing the company’s new headquarters, which was to be based in Meridian, Idaho, just outside of Boise. The 18,000 square ft. building was completed in April 2007 and PETRA Inc. held an inaugural ribbon cutting for its new headquarters on June 21, 2007. With stunning architectural details and aesthetically unique finishes throughout, PETRA’s corporate headquarters is a showcase of design, processes and finish materials that PETRA is able to offer to it’s clients. Today, PETRA is gaining national recognition as a leader in the construction industry. In 2007, Jerry Frank was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for construction and engineering in the Pacific Northwest. Among other honors, PETRA has been inducted into Inc. Magazine’s first-ever Inc. 5000, recognizing the company as one of the fastest growing privately held businesses in North America.

Over the past fifteen years, PETRA Inc. has maintained a strong set of business ethics and a dedication to building a “rock solid” team offering each client unwavering commitment to customer service and constructing excellence. PETRA continues to follow it’s company adage that knowledge and experience build trust; trust builds partnerships; partnerships build buildings; and buildings create communities.
